9TH CONVENTION, WASHINGTON D.C., 18-20th OCTOBER, 1998
|
Discussion panel: United States/Serbia/Serbs

Professor Alex Dragnich

David Binder, New York Times

Professor Charles Ingrao
|
Professor Alex Dragnich, SUC member and retired Professor at
Vanderbilt University, David Binder, New York Times, and Professor Charles Ingrao, Purdue
University . Professor Dragnich provided an eloquent criticism of the Administration's Balkan policy.
Drawing on his intimate knowledge of the recent history of the disintegration of Yugoslavia, he
characterized the Administration's approach as mistaken and ignorant. Mr. Binder and Professor Ingrao
both gave provocative presentations that set out some of the mistakes made by Serbs in the public
positions in the United States. This elicited a lively response from the floor. (Following the Convention
Professor Ingrao has launched an initiative to support Serbian university professors dismissed from their
positions as a result of the new University Law in Serbia that severely limits academic freedom).
